# Inspection Report Content

> Customize the standard language, scope, limitations, and definitions included in your inspection reports.

Inspection Report Content lets you customize the standard language included in your **Summary Report** and **Full Inspection Report**.

InspectIQ provides default wording for each section, which you can review and adapt to your business, inspection standards, and professional requirements.

## Access Inspection Report Content

1. Select **Settings** from the main navigation.
2. Choose **Business Settings**.
3. Select **Inspection Report Content** from the left-hand menu.

You'll see the available report content sections, each with editable text and an option to restore the InspectIQ default.

## Understanding Report Content

Each section contains standard language that can be included when your inspection reports are generated.

InspectIQ identifies where the content appears using labels such as:

* **Appears in: Summary Report**
* **Appears in: Full Report**

These settings control standard report wording, not the individual findings, observations, or recommendations recorded during an inspection.

## Available Report Content Sections

### Summary Report Notice

**Appears in: Summary Report**

Explains that the Summary Report provides a condensed overview of inspection findings and does not replace the Full Inspection Report.

This notice helps clients understand the importance of reviewing the complete report before making decisions about the property.

### Important Report Information

**Appears in: Full Report**

Provides general information about the nature and purpose of a home inspection.

This may include:

* The inspection represents conditions observed at a specific point in time.
* The inspection is visual and non-invasive.
* Findings are based on accessible and observable conditions.
* Clients should consult qualified professionals when further evaluation or repairs are recommended.

### Inspection Scope

**Appears in: Full Report**

Defines the general purpose and scope of the inspection.

This section explains what the inspection is intended to evaluate and the types of observations an inspector may report.

Review this wording to ensure it aligns with your services and applicable Standards of Practice.

### Inspection Limitations

**Appears in: Full Report**

Explains the limitations of a visual home inspection.

For example, certain areas or components may be inaccessible, concealed, obstructed, or unsafe to inspect.

This section helps establish what can and cannot reasonably be determined during the inspection.

### Inspection Exclusions

**Appears in: Full Report**

Identifies services, systems, or evaluations that are outside the scope of a standard home inspection.

Review these exclusions carefully, particularly if your company offers additional inspection services.

> [!NOTE]
>
> In Inspection Exclusions, lines beginning with a hyphen (-) are displayed as bullet points in the generated report.

### General Report Information

**Appears in: Full Report**

Contains additional information and guidance about the use and interpretation of the inspection report.

This may address report reliance, client responsibilities, professional recommendations, and other general report information.

> [!NOTE]
>
> In General Report Information, lines beginning with ## are displayed as subheadings in the generated report.

### Inspection Definitions

Provides explanations of terminology used throughout inspection findings and reports.

These definitions help clients understand how observations, recommendations, serviceability, and concern levels are described.

Review the definitions to ensure they remain consistent with your inspection practices.

## Customize Report Content

To update a section:

1. Locate the section you want to customize.
2. Review the existing InspectIQ wording.
3. Click inside the text field.
4. Edit the content to reflect your company's requirements.
5. Review your changes for accuracy and clarity.

You can customize each section independently.

> [!TIP]
>
> Keep report language clear and professional. Avoid unnecessary technical or legal terminology that may be difficult for clients to understand.

## Restore the InspectIQ Default

If you want to return a section to its original wording:

1. Locate the section.
2. Select **Restore IIQ Default**.
3. Review the restored content.

Each section has its own restore option, allowing you to reset individual sections without replacing all your customized report content.

## How Changes Affect Existing Reports

Report language is captured when a report is generated.

This means:

* Newly generated reports use the applicable configured wording.
* Previously generated reports retain the wording captured when they were created.
* Updating your settings does not automatically change reports that have already been delivered.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Changes to report content settings do not retroactively modify previously generated reports.

## Before Generating Your First Report

We recommend reviewing:

* The Summary Report Notice.
* Important Report Information.
* Inspection Scope and Limitations.
* Inspection Exclusions.
* General Report Information.
* Inspection Definitions.

> [!WARNING]
>
> InspectIQ provides default report language as a starting point. Requirements may vary by jurisdiction, professional association, insurer, and Standards of Practice.
>
> Your company is responsible for ensuring its report wording is appropriate. Consider having your language reviewed by a qualified legal professional.
