# How to Create a New Inspection Work Order in InspectIQ

> Learn how to create a work order in InspectIQ by entering client details, property address, inspection type, and any special access instructions.

Creating a work order is the first step for every inspection job in InspectIQ. A work order ties your client's information, the property being inspected, and the type of inspection together into a single record that you can schedule, assign, and track right through to completion. Follow the steps below to get a new work order set up quickly.

*Screenshot: New Work Order form*

**1. Tap 'New Work Order' from the dashboard**

Open InspectIQ and tap the **New Work Order** button on your dashboard. This opens a blank work order form ready for you to fill in.

**2. Enter client details**

Fill in your client's **full name**, **email address**, and **phone number**. These details are used to send confirmation messages, share the agreement link, and deliver the finished report.

**3. Enter the property address**

Type in the full address of the property being inspected, including the street number, street name, suburb, state, and postcode. InspectIQ uses this address on the final report and in your calendar.

**4. Select the inspection type**

Choose the appropriate inspection type from the dropdown. Common options include:

* **Pre-Purchase** — A buyer's inspection before settlement.
* **Pre-Sale** — A vendor inspection to identify issues before listing.
* **Building & Pest** — A combined structural and pest inspection.
* **New Build / Handover** — A stage or final inspection for new construction.
* **Dilapidation** — A condition report for neighbouring properties.

If your account has custom inspection types configured, they will also appear here.

**5. Add special notes or access instructions**

Use the **Notes** field to record anything the inspector needs to know before arriving on site — for example, gate codes, key collection instructions, pets on the property, or areas that are off-limits. These notes are visible to the assigned inspector but do not appear on the client-facing report.

**6. Save as Draft or proceed to scheduling**

When you're ready, tap **Save as Draft** to store the work order without committing to a date, or tap **Schedule** to move straight into the scheduling screen and lock in a date and time.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Saving a work order as a **Draft** lets you come back and finish it later. Drafts appear on your dashboard with a grey status badge so you can easily spot any jobs that still need a date or a signed agreement before they're ready to go.

> [!TIP]
>
> If you're booking an inspection for a repeat client, start typing their name in the client details field. InspectIQ will suggest matching contacts from your existing records so you can pre-fill their details in one tap instead of re-entering everything from scratch.
